God’s Heroes July 16, 2008

In the words of Grammy….

In July 2007, I sent a letter to every congregation listed in the Marion Star. I felt that if every person who had a heart for God would give just one dollar, we would have enough money to fix the roof. It didn’t work that way. Not very many pastors choose to read my letter to their people. But out of my home church, God raised up a champion, Carolyn Moser. When she heard of Sebastian’s plight, she said to her husband George, “We have to do something”. And thus began God’s plan.

Carolyn began contracting businesses and contractors that she knew. She and George came and waded into the job of cleaning and sanitizing the floors and walls. She contacted Bud McMahon and it wasn’t long before there was a new roof on the house. (This) is just what was needed in order for other things to be done.

Tom Hypes, pastor of The Shepherd’s Fellowship (and owner of The Shepherd’s Nook) read my letter to his people and they gave so generously but beyond the money, they wanted to work. Out of that group came a carpenter, Steve Ruth (of Ruth Construction and Leapin’ Ministries) who completely rebuilt the bathroom and replastering of the upstairs ceilings.

Carolyn talked to a friend who worships at Crosswood United Methodist church and she talked to others and out of that came suspended ceilings installed in two rooms and painting of the walls. Bud England is another of God’s heroes. He adopted the house as his own. Any need he saw, he tended to it. Bud is a wonderful woodworker.

Carolyn went to Lowe’s and they gave us a break in all the building supplies. She went to Ashley Furniture and they donated a complete queen sized bed with mattress for Jeff and Carmon.

Carolyn contacted Georgia Mills Carpet and they installed beautiful carpet in four rooms and roll floor covering in the living room, bathroom, and kitchen.

Carolyn invited interested parties to come see the house. Out of that meeting, Jackie Concepion resolved to host a breakfast fund raiser to purchase furniture with these funds, we bought two base cupboards and a counter top, night stands for the bedroom, a refrigerator, curtains and bedding.

Jackie’s brother John Faust said he wanted to purchase a pig for a hog roast for Sebastian’s House and that produced the “seed” money for our current project; a secure play space for Sebastian.

PJ Plumbing donated a new furnace. (There have been some challenges and) the furnace is in the basement but not installed yet. God will provide!

Dan Dobbs’ home based church family is funding the installation of new replacement windows.

Several people from the village of Prospect brought some gently used furniture for the living area.

Personal friends of Carolyn gave money for her to purchase a new washer from Whirlpool.

Carolyn talked with her massage therapist, Marge Grimes about the project, and as a result Margie and her son Tyler collected groceries and supplies from Kroger East’s customers to stock Sebastian’s cupboard shelves.

The week of July 14th, youth and adults from Methodist Temple in Indiana and The Shepherd’s Fellowship teamed up to clean up the growth around the house, mow the lawn and paint the exterior of the garage. What a blessing these folks were!”

Starting 7/18/08, The Shepherd’s Fellowship has provided Sebastian’s House a new web-site and assist in the upkeep of this site.
